Computing

Statement of Intent

In the Computing Curriculum, we want to embrace the wider ethos of the Lodge Farm Curriculum Statement of Intent. We aim to be in harmony with its principles of ‘a wide range of opportunities to develop and grow as an individual, who shapes their own future’. Our Computing curriculum focuses on a progression of skills in digital literacy, computer science, information technology and online safety to ensure that children become competent in safely using, as well as understanding, technology. These strands are revisited repeatedly through a range of themes during children’s time in school to ensure the learning is embedded and skills are successfully developed. Our intention is that Computing also supports children’s creativity and cross curricular learning to engage children and enrich their experiences in school. We follow Purple Mash as a scheme, with adaptions relating to our children and their needs.

Further to this we will:

  • We aim to equip the all of the children with the skills, knowledge and self-belief to flourish and seize the opportunities the world offers.

  • We aim to help them to have an open mind and develop their creativity, critical thinking and independent problem solving skills through real world awareness and understanding.

  • From Reception to Year 6 our pupils will build up a secure understanding of the key knowledge and concepts. They will be encouraged to build and excel their knowledge and understanding of computer science and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity to develop their critical thinking.

  • We think it is specifically important to expose our children to Computer Technology in other elements of their curriculum, and where possible provide cross-curricular links to promote develop and engage children in other subjects.

  • We provide a high-quality computing education that equips pupils to become digitally literate so that they are able to express themselves and develop their ideas through information and computer technology, allow them to continually practice and improve the skills they learn so that they become creative users of computing technology suitable for the future workplace

Online Safety #wakeupwednesday

We believe all parents, carers, teachers and trusted adults should be empowered with the all the information needed to have informed and age-appropriate conversations about online safety with children. That’s why, every Wednesday, we produce practical, easy to follow guides which focus on specific risks we think you need to be aware of.
