PE and Sports Premium
PE and Sport Premium
At Lodge Farm Primary School, we want children to experience a wide range of high quality physical education (PE) and school sport that will lead to lifelong participation, enjoyment and well-being.
Aspiration: Pupils at Lodge Farm are encouraged to explore their personal aspirations and sporting potential through developing a variety of skills in different activities. They work together with staff to explore a wide range of equipment, learning about themselves and what they enjoy doing. All pupils are taught to try their best, whatever their physical ability. Once a year, a successful athlete comes into school to deliver an activity and an assembly: sharing their story to success.
Healthy Lifestyles: PE is a great way to express yourself, relax and relieve stress. As well as the importance of learning skills in gymnastics, dance, games, athletics and swimming, pupils at Lodge Farm are encouraged to appreciate the benefits to both physical and mental health that come from being active. Pupils are given a variety of opportunities through the curriculum and extra-curricular clubs to find something that they enjoy – the key to staying active in later life.
Communication: Pupils communicate with each other and adults during lessons to discuss and evaluate their own and others’ performances. They are encouraged to share this feedback with their peers. They learn how to describe key skills and use subject-specific vocabulary to talk about their knowledge and understanding of the different areas of PE. They are also encouraged to communicate within games and are taught the importance of teamwork, of which communication is often key.
Knowledge of the World: Pupils at Lodge Farm learn about the importance of physical activity through PE, Science and PSHE. They are given opportunities to take part in a variety of activities, both within lessons and after school. Parents are invited to competitions and sports days. Children are encouraged to find something that they enjoy and to share success (both in and outside of school) with their peers. We use social media to celebrate pupils’ efforts and achievements in all subject areas.
About the PE and Sport Premium funding:
Schools receive PE and Sport Premium funding based on the number of pupils in Years 1-6.
For this academic year (2023-2024), we will receive £18,840.
Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE and sport they offer. For swimming and water safety, this includes providing additional swimming provision targeted to pupils not able to meet the swimming requirements of the national curriculum.
